Interestin' idea. Water's life, but salamander's fire. So, common life for creature 'not from this world' can be dangerous. Have you watched Andrey Tarkovsky's 'Nostalghia'? There was similar technic to show 'blank life': a pool with a water, where some people chatted. When in the end of the film hero returns there, the pool's without a water, full of rubbish. Also, Professor said, that one who'll can swim across that pool holdin' a burnin' candle & don't let a flame fade, can save the world. Hero did it from third attempt(he walked cos there's no water), but then died. And, in the last scene, he was shown at some kind of heaven, sittin' with his dog on a lawn before village house, & this scene was within a gothic cathedral's ruins.
